TVWDRA Race#5 @ Temple Raceway 5/20 Sponsored by BIG WIG RACE CARS & CROW TRANS.
« on: March 31, 2006, 02:16:05 PM »

Saturday May 20, 2006 @ Temple Raceway near Little River Academy, TX

Temple Raceway is located 9 miles south of Temple, Texas on Hwy 95 near Little River - approximately 2 hours from Dallas/Fort Worth, 1 1/2 hours from Austin, 2 1/2 hours from San Antonio, and 3 1/2 hours from Houston. Click here for a map and here for driving directions.

Gates open at 4:00 pm, time trials begin at 5:00 pm.

Ric Campbell, of Big Wig Race Cars, is the title sponsor of this race, and will providing the sponsor bonus, which consists of a full set of his killer aluminum door panels (worth over $200!), that will go to the winner of the event.

David "Pappy" Crow of Crow Racing Transmissions is co-sponsoring this event, and has agreed to add $150 cash to the winner's payout at this race.

NOTE: Everyone is eligible to win the sponsor bonuses at this race (TVWDRA member or otherwise).

This event will be a TVWDRA points race (#5), with the following fees and payouts:
* Entry fee is $35.00 (one car and driver admission), with 70% of the total entry fees going into the racer payout and the remaining 30% going to the track.
* Racer payout is based on car count.
* Under 21 cars normally pays the winner and runner up only, but semi-finalists and quarter-finalists will also receive sponsor bonus money at this event.

Example payout for a 24 car field at this race:
$1112 --> Winner plus a set of custom door panels from Big Wig Race Cars ($210 value!). Cash = $362 normal payout + $750 sponsor bonus.
$555 --> Runner Up ($155 normal payout + $400 sponsor bonus)
$235 each --> Semi-finalists (2) ($35 normal payout + $200 sponsor bonus)
$50 each --> Quarter-finalists (4) ($50 sponsor bonus)

You can win a bracket race with a fast or slow car, since the race is based on a staggered start determined by your average time ("dial-in"). If nothing else, it's fun to race against your friends in a controlled environment, and you get a time slip that shows your elapsed time and speed.

In addition to the TVWDRA bracket racing, we hope that some TxPRA Pro Stock racers will be in attendance, doing some match racing and/or making test & tune passes.

Even if you're not a racer, you can still have a fun day at the track, see some fast Volkswagens, and hang out with your VW buddies.

Since Temple Dragway is just about as centrally located as it gets in Texas, it would be great if everyone reading this thread would help spread the word to VW racers all over the state (via phone calls, emails, posts on VW club websites, etc). More VW racers not only only means more rounds of racing and fun, it also puts more money in the pot.

Mark your calendar and be there or be square! Grin

*** UPDATES AS OF 5/16/2006 ***

By popular demand, VW racers will be running the 1/8 MILE at this event.

1. Due to the rainout of the 5/6 race at @ Texas Raceway, the $400 cash bonus offered by O'Reilly Auto Parts at that race is going to be rolled into the payout for the next race.

2. Toby Andrus of Underground VW in Austin will be contributing an addt'l $300 cash bonus to the VW payouts at the Temple race. This addt'l bonus cash will allow us to pay more in the semi-finals AND pay down to the quarter finals. See the updated payout info below.

3. Danny Owens and Udo Johnson will be contributing two more awesome prizes to the racers with the best reaction time and closest to their dial-in during eliminations (dial-in contest tie decided by best reaction time and reaction time contest tie decided by closest to dial-in). Prizes are a 10 piece metric stubby combination GearWrench set and a rechargeable cordless LED trouble light (worth over $200!).

4. David "Pappy" Crow is working hard, and has has rounded up two more generous sponsors from the Austin area:
Kenny Hill, of Kenny Hill's Autowerks, will contribute $250 cash to the event purse.
Roger & Tom Funnell, of Motormania, will contribute $150 cash to the event purse.

5. One more time! Pappy Crow has been busy securing addt'l great contributors from central Texas:
Austin Vee-Dub, will contribute $150 cash to the event purse.
Matt Quinn, of Pipeworx, will contribute $50 cash to the event purse.

6. Still rollin'! Two San Antonio VW shops have stepped up to the plate:
Steve Foster's Buggy Warehouse will contribute $150 cash to the event purse.
John Pierce, of Pierce Automotive, will contribute $150 cash to the event purse.

7. "Buy backs" will be allowed at this race!
--- Anyone that loses in the first round will be eligible to buy back into the race. There will be no buy backs for subsequent rounds of racing.
--- The cost for buy backs is $20.
--- Buy back fees will be added to the total race payout.
--- TVWDRA members who buy back in will NOT receive points for rounds won after the first round.

This means that the Temple event will be a REALLY BIG MONEY RACE. In addition to the regular payouts, over $2150 worth of sponsor cash and goods will go to the top finishers!![/i] Shocked

Thanks to the following businesses for supporting this event and Volkswagen drag racing in Texas!!! (click on the banners to visit their websites)

Sounds good to me. Anybody game for a 7.50 index too? It's a whole lot easier running two classes on 1/8 due to the engine cools down quicker.

Four weeks and counting...

Temple Raceway will be running test & tune sessions during the evening of 5/20, which are open to everyone. We have some great prizes at stake for those of you that would like to bracket race, including some other cool stuff that is still pending.

If the cars and interest are there, we'll also try to run an informal Pro Stock class and/or match races.

We've advertised this race on a number of VW club websites in Texas, so we're hoping for a good turnout of VW racers and enthusiasts, from all over the state. It should be a good time for everyone.

Welcome to the forum, Kenneth!

Here are a couple shots of your car, that I took at the Bug-In 5/16/2004 @ the Texas Motorplex. I hope to see you running your new ride at the track soon.

Hey all,

If you'd like to help publicize this event, feel free to print some copies of the flyer that you can find at the following link.

Drop 'em off at your favorite VW shop, give 'em to your buddies, or put them on Volkswagens in your area (no duct tape, please).

http://www.speedshots.net/tvwdra/images/temple_vw_flyer.pdf

In order to view and/or print the file, you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader software. If you don't already have it installed, you can get it for FREE right here...

Thanks!
