TVWDRA Race #11 - Sponsored by OAK HILL AUTOMOTIVE -- 9/30/2006
« on: August 30, 2006, 11:09:37 AM »

Saturday September 30, 2006 @ Pine Valley Raceway in Lufkin, TX.
Gates open at 2:00 pm

This is a TVWDRA and TxPRA event, so in addition to the VW Bracket class, the TxPRA guys will be there running their Pro Stocks. See this thread for specifics on the TxPRA portion of the program.

Primary event sponsor, Oak Hill Automotive will be providing the following great prizes for the bracket portion this race, which will be awarded in addition to the regular payout:

  • $150 cash for the winner.
  • $50 cash to the driver who runs dead on their dial-in during eliminations. If no one runs dead on their dial-in, $25 cash will be awarded to the driver who runs closest to their dial-in during eliminations.
  • $50 cash to the driver who has a perfect reaction time (.000) during eliminations. If no one has a perfect reaction time, $25 cash will be awarded to the driver who has the best reaction time during eliminations.
  • $35 gift certificates to the 2nd round losers in VW Brackets and 1st round losers in the VW Pro Stock class.
  • Custom, acrylic trophies for the winner and runner up, similar to those below:

In addition to the contributions from Oak Hill Automotive, some other great people and organizations are adding to the pot:

Payout is based on car count. More than 21 cars pays the winner, runner up, and semi-finalists, while a field of less than 21 cars pays winner and runner up only.

"Buy backs" will be allowed at this race. Anyone that loses in the first round will be eligible to buy back into the race for an addt'l $20 fee. There will be no buy backs for subsequent rounds of racing. TVWDRA members who buy back in will NOT receive points for rounds won after the first round.

NOTE: Because this is an "out of town" event, everyone is eligible to win bonus cash and prizes at this race.

To be clear, Meredith suggested that the $100 sponsorship be split for both the P/S and the bracket and I agree.  That way we can sponsor both classes.   Cool

After TVWDRA Race #10, the 2006 points race has tightened up a bit. Since TVWDRA Race #11 at Pine Valley is the second to the last race of the season, I'll bet we'll see a number of the front runners at this event.

Two weeks and counting...

Hey all,

If you own a digital camera and are going to TVWDRA Points Race #11 in Lufkin this weekend, please bring your camera with you.

I won't be at this race, so we need some help from the would-be photographers out there.

Take pics of whatever you like - no need to get too fancy. Action shots can be a little tricky unless you have a fast digicam, so still photos of drivers and their cars in the pits and/or staging lanes are just fine.

Most importantly, we need some pics of the race winner, runner up, and a representative from Oak Hill Automotive, when they are presented with their trophies and bonus cash/prizes.

Ideally, I'd like to get some pics from more than one person, as everyone's perspective and ideas are different.

If you'll send the pics to me via email (hotrodvw@need4speed.com), or post them in the Racing gallery on the Samba, it would be much appreciated.

Lemme know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

ALRIGHT, here we go--Pine Valley time. Grin I'm really juiced Tongue up now from the NHRA Nationals yesterday and still a little jazzed from my win a week ago. I'm ready for some more action. How bout ya'll? Gas prices are down, weather is great, east Texas in the fall, all good reasons to make the trip. Come on racers, guys, and gals, let's support the tvwdra club and this event at Pine Valley. We need to have a LARGE car count and lots of fans.  This is a great 1/4 facility in the woods of east Texas. About a 3 hour or so drive southest from the metro plex area. Not that far. The TVwdra is bringing some of the best VW bracket racers in the country to Pine Valley. High flying nitrous bugs, wheel standing sand rails, and dead on consistant type 3 and more. Be there!!!!!

And turbo bugs( don't want to leave my power adder brothers out).

Bracket class: $35.00 car and driver(one class--all run)
1st round only buyback: $20.00(nobody wants to lose in the first round and go home. So, buy back into the regular eliminator)

The person that will be teching the cars. I have a question in regards to my seat belts. To give you an update is that I have been giving my car an overhaul by converting it into a race car and the first thing I bought was a set of seat belts. That was 4 years ago. I just started racing late this year. The date on them is 2001 and I will be trying to run in the 11 second 1/4 mile time line. (hopefully). Next year I plan to buy a new set. I was wondering even though they are new to me they are old as a date. Will this prevent me from racing? Or do I need to run slower until I get new seatbelts? Thanks

Hey all,

At this point, it looks like there will be a total of $360 in bonus cash available for the bracket portion of this event:

$150 - Oak Hill Automotive
$50 -- Amanda Watts / Amanda's Jewelry
$50 -- Bay Area Volkswagen Club
$50 -- Redland Auto Salvage
$35 -- Monty Wooldridge / Small Potatoes Racing
$25 -- Sean Billhymer / Essence Hair & Tanning

This bonus money will be split in the same 70/30 fashion as we normally do for the track payouts. The race winner will receive $250 of the bonus money and the runner up will receive $110 (this is in addition to the normal track payouts, which will vary depending on car count)

All right, race results for race #11 at Pine Valley Raceway. First of all, I would like to thank all the racers in attendance and to the sponsors of this event. Onward to the numbers. 10 cars where in the first round. The first round buybacks with 9 cars in the second round allowed us to send more cars down the track to put on a good show for the fans. There was a lot of fans in attendance to see the Texas Pro Stock Association, Top and Mod ET, Txpra, and us. I'm sure a lot of those fans have not seen anything like the Txpra and us. I believe we put on a very good show for them.

In the semi's, Rick Tarter vs Red Street Car from Houston area( drawing a blank on his name, help me out here) and I(.537 RT) got the bye. The track was determining bye runs by best RT from previous round. Rick dails a 13.30 to a 19.75. Rick gets the tree with a .565 RT to a .670. Rick just flat nails his dail with a dead on 13.001 at 98.00 to a breakout pass for the street cars 19.609 at 59.50 with Rick taking the win. I decide to run the car through on the bye run. Dail is 10.89. I pop a .505 RT with a out the back door 10.865 at 120.48. That sets up another classic matchup between Rick and I. Rick dails a 13.30 to my 10.85. I put a little tree on Rick with a .5266 to Rick's .5299. I'm coming up on Rick real fast as we pass the 1000 ft mark. As I'm just about on his bumper, I feel the car start to surge. This is not a good time to running low on nitrous. Live by the bottle, die by the low bottle. This is the most 1/4 mle runs I have put on a full bottle with 7 runs. I feel my throttle foot just going through the floor board yelling at the old heap to make it pass him. I pass Rick at the finish line by .0029 seconds. We were both off ours dails by .08 with Ricks 13.385 at 98.53 to my slowing 10.93 at 116.34. The tree was the difference. Rick and I are always real close when we race.

The best RT and closest to dail where in the semi's. Rick won with a 13.001 on a 13.00 dail. I won best RT with a .505.

I had a great time. Met some new VW nuts( like me). Several fans came up and commented on our cars. A very fun day. Great track and very cool owners. See ya,ll at the track--Carl--On/juice Tongue

Oh, by the way, I did weight the bottle once I got home. Humm, now I know how many runs before changing out the throttle in a bottle. LOL.

Carl, that red street bug from Houston is Jason Welch from Deer Park, Tx.  What you may not have known is that he is part of another club in Houston.  HALO (Houston Area Lightning Owners) and does race it every once in a while.  Thought you would like to know.\

Here's a shot of Daniel Watts from event sponsor Oak Hill Automotive and race winner, Carl Nolen (BTW, that's a 10.85 dial-in on Carl's window)

Addt'l pics on the TVWDRA Home Page and more to come courtesy of Gary Calvert. If anyone else has pics from this race, please email them to me and I'll put them in the event gallery.
